Latimer Endorsed for County Executive by State Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins

Latimer continues to gain momentum with endorsement from State’s second highest-ranking African-American elected official

YONKERS- Today at Yonkers Public Library, George Latimer, Democratic candidate for Westchester County Executive, received the endorsement of longtime colleague, State Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
As county legislators, Stewart-Cousins and Latimer spearheaded the creation of the Westchester Human Rights Commission. The commission was formed in 1999 with the mission of fostering justice, equality, and education for the diverse Westchester community.
“Andrea has been a friend and colleague for over 20 years, and I’ve always valued her vision, integrity and counsel. I am humbled to receive her endorsement, and it’s been my honor to vote for her three times for Majority Leader. Her commitment to our community is unparalleled, and I look forward to our continued work together as County Executive and Senate Majority Leader,” said Latimer.
Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “In these difficult times, Westchester needs a leader who is not afraid to stand up to Donald Trump, who respects all the families of Westchester, and who shares our values. That person is George Latimer. I’ve known George a very long time; we’ve achieved important things working together and I know that he’s the right person for the job right now.
“Our current County Executive doesn’t speak out against Trump, the NRA, or other extremists in his party. When we have hate crimes in Charlottesville, women being deprived of our reproductive rights, millions of children being thrown off health insurance and a horrific mass murder in Las Vegas fueled by the easy access to weapons of war, failure to speak out is simply unacceptable. I’m proud to stand with George today, because I know he’ll stand with the people of Westchester every day.”
Stewart-Cousins’ endorsement came during an afternoon event with Latimer and County Legislator Ken Jenkins outside Yonkers Public Library. Also in attendance were Yonkers City Councilman Christopher Johnson, currently running for a seat in the county legislature; Yonkers City Councilwoman Corazón Peneda, and County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky.
With four weeks left until the general election, Stewart-Cousin’s endorsement adds to the the growing coalition of support for George Latimer as Westchester’s next County Executive.
Latimer will appear on the Democrat, Independent, Reform, Working Families, and Women’s Equality ballot lines on November 7th.
